Parking Meter Collector/Repairer
Definition
Under general supervision, to perform inspection and repair duties on parking meters and clocks; to collect parking meter revenues; to perform related work as required.
Typical Duties
Locates, tests and makes necessary repairs to defective parking meters and clocks; disassembles meters, cleans and examines the mechanism for breaks and wear in the shop; repairs or replaces damaged or worn parts and reassembles meters; keeps records on meter repairs; orders replacement parts and supplies from manufacturers or dealers as needed; maintains inventory records; oversees painting, maintenance and numbering of parking meter posts; occasionally makes improvements on standard designs; collects parking meter revenues and transports to Finance Office or bank depository; prepares related records; performs other related duties as assigned.
Tools and Equipment Used
Pencil or micro-computing device, hand tools, calculator, portable or mobile radio.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of
Materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in meter operation; mechanical and small clock movement parts.
Ability to
Perform detailed repair work; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; maintain friendly relationships with the public; keep records and prepare reports. Mechanical skills and manual dexterity are required to successfully perform the duties assigned to this classification.
Experience
Any type of mechanical repair experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities.
Education
High school graduation or equivalent.
Additional Requirements
Possession of a valid California Driver License.
