Job Title
Art Projects Coordinator
Definition
Under general supervision, to perform paraprofessional and responsible technical work assisting in the development and coordination of City art programs; and to perform related work as required.
Typical Duties
Assist in the development and coordination of various City art programs; respond to public, Fine Arts Commissioners, staff, and artist requests for information and service; design and prepare call for entries and other arts related materials and brochures; receive, process, and prepare call for entries materials for Fine Arts Commission review; coordinate call for entries and other City art programs with consultants, participants, and City staff; attend Fine Arts Commission meetings as required; assist in the review of capital projects for potential art treatments; catalog existing public art; develop and maintain slide bank and directory of works of art of local and regional artists; assist in the coordination of City and community activities relating to Arts and Humanities Month; develop a City arts newsletter and drafts of City arts program publicity.
Tools and Equipment Used
Personal computer, including word processing and spreadsheet software; central financial computer; 10-key calculator, phone, copy machine, fax machine.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to operate, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of
Principles and practices of arts administration, preferably in a local government setting; research techniques, methods, and procedures; typical office procedures, methods, equipment and computer software, including word processing and graphic design software; English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; record keeping principles and procedures.
Ability to
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; assist in developing and coordinating art programs; compile and analyze information and data; plan layout and graphic design for call for entries and arts program promotional information and materials; comprehend and interpret art program regulations and guidelines; operate office machines, including computers; and to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with elected and appointed officials, management staff, employees, and others.
Experience/Eduction
Two years of experience providing assistance in developing and coordinating programs, preferably involving art; and completion of 15 semester or equivalent quarter units from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, public relations, art administration, or a related field. -or- One year of experience providing assistance in developing and coordinating programs, preferably involving art; and an Associate Degree or completion of 60 semester or equivalent quarter units from an accredited college or university with a concentration in marketing, communications, public relations, art administration, or related field.
Additional Requirements
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver License.
