Adult School Crossing Guard
Definition
Under general direction, to perform a wide variety of complex, professional work while assisting the City Manager in managing the daily operations of the City Manager’s Office, and with matters relating to redevelopment, economic development, budget preparation and administration, public art programs, and public information; the analysis of organizational, staffing and financial priorities and alternatives; systems and procedure analyses; contract administration and purchasing; and to perform related work as required.
Typical Duties
Instruct children at designated school crossings to wait at curb for crossing signal or until safe crossing interval in event of no signal installation; direct traffic in immediate vicinity of crossing, stopping vehicular traffic, and guiding school children across streets; signal vehicular traffic to resume normal flow; report traffic violations to police; report suspicious persons and loiterers in vicinity of intersections or school areas; perform other related duties as assigned.

Hand held stop sign.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually noisy.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge of
State and local traffic laws as evidenced by possession of a valid California Driver License.
Ability to
Work with children; follow written and oral instructions with minimum supervision; act quickly in emergencies; judge situations accurately.

Education
High school graduation or equivalent.
Requirements
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess normal hearing and visual functions as evidenced by appropriate medical examination, providing that visual functions shall not be such that loss or damage to glasses will not adversely affect ability to perform job duties. Must have ability to pass a Police Department background investigation.
