Administrative Analyst II

Definition

Under general direction, to independently perform highly complex paraprofessional and responsible technical, administrative, and analytical work for a management official and/or department; to perform related work as assigned.

Disinguishing Characteristics

The Administrative Analyst II is distinguished from the Administrative Analyst I class by the complexity and difficulty of the tasks assigned, the higher level of independence required, and the addition of the responsibility to make recommendations regarding changes in policies, procedures, or administration based on analysis, research, and administrative experience.

Typical Duties

Respond to public requests for information and service; prepare draft and final routine reports, correspondence, and meeting minutes; attend and/or act as staff to citizen advisory committees where necessary; independently process documents related to complex administrative procedures; prepare drafts of administrative procedures, reports, final letters of own composition, memos, and other documents as necessary; may assist in the formulation and implementation of management policies relating to labor relations and other confidential personnel matters; may occasionally supervise others; work independently to perform tasks as required; assist in preparation of routine studies, statistical analysis, and other administrative activities as necessary; may research, develop, review, and prepare grant applications, including monitoring existing programs for compliance with regulations; may prepare and assist in the review and analysis of department budgets.

Tools and Equipment Used

Requires frequent use of personal computer, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs; calculator, telephone, copy machine, and fax machine.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or other controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of

Principles and practices of organization and management; basic policies, procedures, and organization practices of the City of Chico; research and statistical methods; modern office practices, procedures, equipment and techniques, including computerized word processing and spreadsheet applications.

Ability to

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; collect, compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data; type at a speed of 45 words per minute; work cooperatively with elected officials, management staff, employees, and others; ability to prepare correspondence, reports, and minutes.

Experience

One year experience performing the duties equivalent to those performed by the Administrative Analyst I, Public Information/Training Technician, Legal Technician, or Accounting Technician.

Education

An Associate's Degree from an accredited college with a major course of study in public administration or a related field. Completion of the equivalent of 60 semester units of college course work towards a Bachelor's Degree may be substituted for the Associate's Degree.

Additional Requirements

Possession of a valid California Driver License.
