Code Enforcement

The Code Enforcement Unit of the Housing and Neighborhood Services Department is responsible for the preservation of neighborhoods by gaining compliance with applicable ordinances within the Chico Municipal Code. Effective 3/7/11, Code Enforcement has relocated to the Police Department at 1460 Humboldt Road.

Common Code Violations:

  • Accumulation of junk/trash/debris
  • Long-term storage of RV's, trailers, boats on City property
  • Inoperable/abandoned vehicles-private property
  • Unauthorized materials in the public right-of-way
  • Zoning violations
  • Trash can placement/inadequate garbage service
  • Sign violations
  • Illegal Camping
  • Noise complaints
  • Substandard Housing

Substandard Housing

Code Enforcement also investigates complaints concerning substandard housing issues and works with the various property management companies and property owners to ensure that citizens of Chico live in a healthy and properly maintained environment. Health and Safety Code

Weed Abatement

Code Enforcement staff is responsible for the identification of vacant properties that contain weeds and work with the property owners and City Council to ensure abatement.

Community Clean Up Events

Staff sponsors and participates in several community cleanup events, including "Drop and Dash" and "Love Chico."  For more information on these events, contact Code Enforcement Officer Raul Gonzalez at (530) 897-4937.
