HOW TO GET STARTED:

  1. Have a group of 10 or more? Please contact Shane Romain, Park Services Coordinator prior to the workday at (530) 896-7831 email:parkinfo@chicoca.gov
  2. Volunteers under 18 need to have a parent/guardian release form signed prior to work. Download: Volunteer Application
  3. Dress in layers for the weather and wear Closed-toed shoes; bring your own water bottle and work gloves if you have them.

 

City of Chico Parks and Greenways Volunteer Calendar

The City of Chico, Parks Division is committed to helping ensure that volunteers have a rewarding and positive experience during their volunteer work.  The Volunteer Program welcomes all members of the public. In addition to volunteering in Bidwell Park, the City also needs your help in our creeks, greenways and other specialty parks. Tools, instruction, and water is provided onsite—please bring your own water container.

Saturday, September 23rd (9 am to noon) Comanche Creek Greenway Volunteers will help improve greenway entrances and creek access areas, pull weeds or pick up trash. Volunteers will meet at the Woodland entrance (across from 977 Woodland Ave.) of the South 1 Mile Recreation Area of Bidwell Park. Activities can include; litter pick-up, removal of invasive vegetation, planting and much more! Please wear closed-toe shoes and bring a container for water. Long pants are recommended. Saturday, September 30th (8 am to 11 am) Chico Community Watch, Biweekly Lindo Channel Cleanup. Meeting location is the bridge at Esplanande and Lindo Channel nest to Chico Nut. Wear closed-toe shoes and bring gloves & water.

Saturday, September 30th (9 am to 12:00 pm) Teichert Ponds cleanup. Meet in the e parking lot behind Kohl's Dept. Store. Volunteers will help remove invasive vegetation and litter. Saturday, October 14th (9AM-12PM) Water Quality in Big Chico Creek

Join The Stream Team citizen scientists in conducting water quality assessments to track the health of Big Chico Creek. Meet at Five Mile Picnic Area Parking Lot (Centennial Way) at 9AM. Free, and training is provided. Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Annual Volunteer Thank-you Picnic following this event. Saturday, Oct 28th (9 am to noon) Make a Difference Day in Bidwell Park! Litter and invasive plant removal. Closed-toe shoes required. Tools and water provided, please bring your own water container. . PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Registration form will be available online shortly.
