HOW TO GET STARTED:

  1. Have a group of 10 or more? Please contact Shane Romain, Park Services Coordinator prior to the workday at (530) 896-7831 email:parkinfo@chicoca.gov
  2. Volunteers under 18 need to have a parent/guardian release form signed prior to work. Download: Volunteer Application
  3. Dress in layers for the weather and wear Closed-toed shoes; bring your own water bottle and work gloves if you have them.

Friday, June 15th (7:00 - 10:00 am) Starthistle Removal at Verbena Fields The work site is near the intersection of East 1st Ave and Verbena Ave. YST is a weed that everyone is allowed to pull from Chico’s open space areas. Closed-toe shoes are required. Come and leave anytime. Gloves, tools, and bags will be provided. For more information, call Susan at (530) 321-3406.

Saturday June 16th (8 to 11 am) Comanche Creek Greenway Cleanup  Meet at the CCG gravel parking lot (East Park Ave. at Midway).  Projects may include trash pickup, weeding, or whatever other work is highest priority on that day. Closed-toe shoes are required and long pants (no leggings) are recommended. For more information, call Susan at (530) 321-3406. Event sponsored by Friends of Comanche Creek Greenway.

Saturday, July 14th (9 am-Noon) Water Quality Monitoring in Big Chico Creek. Join The Stream Team citizen scientists in conducting water quality assessments to track the health of Big Chico Creek. Meet at Five Mile Picnic Area Parking Lot (Centennial Way) at 9AM. Free, and training is provided. Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, call The Stream Team (530) 342-6620.
