HOW TO GET STARTED:

  1. Have a group of 10 or more? Please contact Shane Romain, Park Services Coordinator prior to the workday at (530) 896-7831 email:parkinfo@chicoca.gov
  2. Volunteers under 18 need to have a parent/guardian release form signed prior to work. Download: Volunteer Application
  3. Dress in layers for the weather and wear Closed-toed shoes; bring your own water bottle and work gloves if you have them.

Thursday, April 12th (1 - 4 pm) Volunteer Thursdays!

Volunteers will meet at the Woodland entrance parking lot (across from 977 Woodland Ave.) of the South 1 Mile Recreation Area of Bidwell Park. Activities can include; litter pick-up and removal of invasive vegetation. Closed-toe shoes are required. Bring a container for water and gloves if possible. Long pants are recommended. Rain Cancels. Saturday April 14th (9 am- 1 pm) Block Party with a Purpose

Volunteers will meet at Nord Ave and Bidwell Ave (next to Thai Express). We will be picking up trash along the creek. Closed toed shoes are required and pants encouraged. Volunteers can register at http://www.becnet.org/block-party-purpose-april-2018-registration. Coffee and snacks provided. Bring refillable water bottle. Heavy rain cancels. Saturday, April 14th Team Leader Training for Trail Maintenance

Work Trailworks is teaming up with Chico Parks Division to host a trails training.

The day of training is geared toward individuals who are interested in becoming crew leaders or attending at least 3 trail work sessions per year.

Andrew Pellkofer of Trail Laboratories will be leading the training which will consist of a morning class room session and afternoon field practical that will focus on basic trail construction and maintenance techniques. Space is limited and registration is required. Lunch will be provided by Chico Velo. Contact velo@chicovelo.org or phone 530.343.8356 if you need additional information or would like to sign up.

Saturday, April 21st (9am - noon) Earth Day in Bidwell Park!

The City of Chico, Parks Division in partnership with Chico Tree Advocates and Orchard Supply Hardware will be celebrating the 48th anniversary of Earth Day. The first 100 volunteers that preregister at www.raceplanner.com will have their choice of five varieties of a free, 5-gallon, potted tree if requested. Volunteers will meet at the South 1 Mile area, east side of Sycamore Field near Caper Acres. The nearest parking will be at Caper Acres. Projects will include removal of invasive vegetation and litter cleanup. All ages are invited to participate.  Minors 13 and under need to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. Volunteers 17 and under need a release form signed by a parent or guardian.Volunteers are required to wear sturdy, closed shoes and bring a container for water. It is helpful if participants can bring their own gloves and hand tools.
