Technical Rescue Team

Rescue Team

The City of Chico Fire Department has a 14 person Technical Rescue Team. Members are trained to the Specialist level in the areas of technical rescue, including:

  • Urban Search & Rescue
  • Confined Space Rescue
  • Swiftwater Rescue
  • Static Water Rescue (Dive)
  • High and Low Angle Rope Rescue
  • Trench Rescue
  • Helicopter Rescue
  • Large Animal Rescue

The Team participates in monthly drills and quarterly inter-agency drills. Each member attends at least one continuing professional education course annually. Captains assigned to the Team are designated as Team Leaders.

The Chico Rescue Team participates in the Butte Interagency Rescue Group (BIRG) which includes the five cities, Butte County Fire Rescue and the Sheriff's Search & Rescue Unit. The closest on-duty personnel are dispatched to any major rescue regardless of jurisdiction. Training and operations are standardized for all participating agencies.

In 2002, the Drowning Accident Rescue Team was merged with the Butte Interagency Rescue Group whicn now provides the closest rescue divers for any static water drowning emergency.
