Rescue 2 is the primary technical response unit for the City of Chico and Town of Paradise.
The Rescue Support Trailer carries bulky equipment, a large generator, and serves as a small enclosed workshop.
Rescue 5 is the newest response unit of the Sheriff;s Search & Rescue unit. It operates out of their headquarters on Morrow Lane and is often used on searches and technical rescues with the City.
Butte Interagency Rescue Group
Butte Interagency Rescue Group Technical Rescue Response System
The Butte Interagency Rescue Group, (BIRG) was established in 1996 as a cooperative organization under the authority of the Butte County Fire Chief's Association and the Butte County Sheriff's Office. The Butte County Fire Chief's Association and Butte County Sheriff's Office provide direction, policy, and guidelines. Butte County Fire Rescue along with the Town of Paradise and the cities of Chico, Oroville, Gridley, Biggs and Butte County Sheriff's Search & Rescue are all voluntary participants of the Butte Interagency Rescue Group, which endorses an operational manual and which also sets the parameters under which technical rescues are performed.
BIRG provides a systematic approach to achieve and coordinate a program that maintains a cadre of certified rescue personnel and the necessary equipment immediately available to provide a technical rescue capability throughout Butte County for Over-the-Edge, Confined Space, Collapsed Structure, and Water Rescues including Dive Rescues.
BIRG Goals
- To provide technical assistance to the Incident Commander at the scene of rescues.
- To provide a cost-effective Rescue Response System.
- . To coordinate the efforts and activities of the participating agencies with other agencies' personnel and resources.
- To provide guidelines for purchasing and standardization of equipment by Butte Interagency Rescue Agencies.
- To gain maximum, effective utilization of all response units assigned to rescue responsibilities.
- To ensure that continuity exists at all levels of rescue, training, and qualifications.
- To establish and maintain an organizational liaison between the Butte County Fire Chiefs' Association, the Butte County Training Officers Association, the Butte County Sheriff's Office and Butte County Sheriff's Search & Rescue Unit for the purpose of system evaluation and revision as required.
