Chico 9-1-1 Safety Pals
The City of Chico Fire Department has a long history of being committed to fire and injury prevention through public education. While a variety of programs are offered to various community groups, the cornerstone of public education has been the delivery of programs to children in local public and private schools in grades Kindergarten through 4th. Educating young children builds a foundation of safety messages which carried through into adult life. Sending children home from school with a message to check the smoke detector or to develop a home escape plan also involves parents and family members in fire prevention and life safety practices and habits.
The City of Chico 9-1-1 Safety Pals programs provide effective safety education for local students and faculty with the goal of preventing injuries and deaths by reducing the risk of fire and life safety emergencies in our community. The programs also teach the safest and most effective way to react if the child is faced with a real fire or life safety emergency. The programs utilize a variety of teaching methods such as skits, educational songs, dancing, characterization and puppetry designed to enhance the learning process.
The City of Chico 9-1-1 Safety Pals are a joint cast of employees from the City of Chico Fire, Police, Park, Code Enforcement and Information Systems Departments.
Little Buddy and Pals want you to remember:
- If you ever catch on fire you better know.... Don't run around... STOP, DROP AND ROLL!!
- If you get burned, you should always use cool, clean water to make it feel better. Never use ice or butter!
- When there is an emergency and you need help, dial 9-1-1. Police, Fire or Emergency Services will be on the run!
- When you're on the Internet, don't give out your name or talk to strangers.
- Protect your skin when you're playing in the sun by using sunscreen before fun!
- Pool toys are fun... but use a well fitting life jacket to keep you afloat! Don't just pack it, wear your jacket!
- Fruits and berries on the trail are not something to pick because they can make you sick!
- Build your campfire away from the trees...this will prevent forest fires.
