Project History

$35,000 was available for a two-phase project that includes the development of design guidelines and the fabrication and installation of artwork in a median on Forest Avenue. Both phases will be completed by a team consisting of a lead artist, other artists if desired, and at least one of the following, an engineer, an architect, or a landscape architect. $10,000 of the budget was available for the production of design guidelines and specifications which will be used by the City’s engineers when they develop the scope of work for future Capital Improvement Traffic Median Projects. $25,000 was available for the design, fabrication, and installation of art work(s) in a median on Forest Avenue

Selection Process

On Monday, October 23, 2006 the Forest Avenue Median Art Project Selection Panel convened and reviewed the qualifications of four artist-led teams. One artist team was selected to complete Phase I (design guidelines) and II (install art work in one of the medians) of the project. The Selection Panel's recommendation was forwarded to the Arts Commission at its November 8, 2006 meeting where the commission voted to accept the recommendation of the Selection Panel. City Council reviewed and accepted the recommendation of Artist Team: Cal Ling and Greg Melton.
