Fire Prevention & Life Safety Bureau

The following is a list of the services the Chico Fire Department Fire Prevention and Life Safety Bureau performs:

  1. Uniform Fire Code Permit inspections
  2. Uniform Fire Code inspections, other than permit occupancies and apartments (already being performed by the engine companies).
  3. Fire service input to development review proces
  4. Fire service input to use permit process.
  5. Fire service recommendations for fire flow and fire fighting water system locations.
  6. Fire service input to requires fire suppression system planning and installation.
  7. Fire service supervision of fire alarm system planning installation and testing.
  8. Fire service input to General Plan and specific plans.
  9. Fire service input to environmental documents such as EIR's and mitigated negative declarations.
  10. Fire service advice to the public regarding Fire Code interpretation.
  11. Fire service input to Fire Code adoption and revision process.
  12. Fire Department liaison with Regional Water Quality Control Board, FAA (Federal Aviation Agency), District Attorney, Air Quality Management District, Department of Toxics, Butte County Environmental Health, Red Cross, and the State Fire Marshal's Office.
  13. Fire service requirements for plan check process.
  14. Issuance of firefighter safety bulletins for various occupancies.
  15. Membeship in the Butte County Arsn Task force
  16. Membership in Northern California Fire Prevention Officers Association.
  17. Determination of cause and origin of fires.
  18. Supplemental investigation of fires caused by arson or gross negligence.
  19. Court testimony for fire law violations such as arson.
  20. Monitoring installation and sale of approved fire extinguishers.
  21. Issuance of citations and appearance in court for violations for various fire safety regulations.
  22. Enforcement of city fireworks ban.
  23. After hours public assembly occupancy inspections.
  24. Issuance of all fire permits.
  25. Issuance of all Fire Code occupancy permits.
  26. Maintenance of all required Fire Prevention/Life Safety Bureau files and records.
  27. Providing telephone answering and receptionist services for Fire Department.
  28. Development of Fire Department graphics presentations.
  29. Processing of all false alarm ordinance letters.
  30. Reporting building fire loss data to County Assessor.
  31. Providing fire reports to the public.
  32. Assistance to citizens following fire or other emergencies.
  33. Child and youth caused fire-setter counseling program.
  34. All qualified Incident Command System Information Officers.
  35. All qualified Incident Command System Staging Area Managers.
  36. Qualified Incident Command System Safety Officer.
  37. Weed abatement and lot cleaning program coordination with Community Development Department.
  38. Investigation of citizen complaints.
  39. Recommendation of adjustments to Fire Department Fee Schedule.
  40. Supervise work of Fire Prevention volunteers and CSUC student interns.
